CGM Systems

Continuous Glucose Monitors

The CGM is the single most impactful tool for T1D management I've ever used. Here's my take on the main options available right now.

My Current CGM

Eversense 365

The only implantable CGM — one sensor lasts a full year. No weekly changes, no adhesive to manage, no sensor falling off mid-workout. Requires a minor in-office insertion procedure but disappears from your daily routine once it's in. Integrates with the Twiist pump.

Most Popular

Dexcom G7

The most widely used CGM with the broadest integration ecosystem. Accurate, reliable, and works with most pumps. Has had some quality control issues in 2025 that appear to have been addressed. Good starting point for most people.

Most Affordable

Abbott Libre 3+

Lower cost than most competitors and now includes real-time alarms. Accuracy can be inconsistent near lows — something to be aware of if you're dosing off CGM readings. Works with the Twiist pump system.

Insulin Pumps

Pump Therapy

I've been through Tandem, MDI, and now the Twiist. Here's where I'd point people looking at pump options in 2026.

My Current Pump

Twiist by Sequel Med Tech

The first pump to integrate with the Eversense 365. Uses ultrasound technology to measure actual insulin volume at every dose — not just counting motor clicks. Powered by Tidepool Loop, available through pharmacy benefits with no long-term contract.

Tubeless Option

Omnipod 5

The most popular tubeless pump. No tubing, waterproof, and works with a smartphone. Good option if you want pump therapy without managing tubing. Works with Dexcom G6/G7.

Established Choice

Tandem t:slim X2 / Mobi

I used Tandem for six years before switching to the Twiist. Solid, reliable system with a strong track record. The Mobi is the most compact tubed pump currently available. Works with Dexcom.

Supplies & Accessories

What I Actually Carry

The stuff that makes day-to-day management less annoying. Built from years of trial and error.

Eversense Tape

One of the underrated benefits of the Eversense 365 is that the included adhesive tape is genuinely good — I haven't needed any additional overtape. If you're on Dexcom or Libre and losing sensors early, overtape is worth looking into, but with Eversense it hasn't been a problem for me.

Fast Sugar Sources

Glucose tabs, Smarties, and Starburst are my go-to lows treatments. Predictable carb count, fast absorption, and easy to carry. I keep them in every bag, my car, and my nightstand.

Twiist App + Sugarmate

The Twiist app is my primary day-to-day dashboard — insulin delivery, CGM readings, glucose forecast, and bolus all in one place. For a secondary view and Apple Watch complications, Sugarmate is worth having alongside it. Both are free.

Low Treatment

Dex4 Glucose Tabs

4g of fast-acting glucose per tab, predictable every time. I keep a tube in every jacket pocket and my car's center console. The orange flavor is the most tolerable at 3am.

Disoncare Odyssey 60H Insulin Cooler

Electric cooling case that keeps insulin at the right temp for up to 60 hours. Digital display shows the internal temp at a glance. TSA approved and includes a QR medical tag — solid option for longer trips.

InsulinSaver

A self-cooling insulin bag with a built-in temperature sensor — no soaking, no batteries, no freezing required. Just place your insulin inside and go. The sensor alerts you if temps go out of range, which is something no other cooler I've used actually does. Worth knowing about.

Adhesive

Skin-Tac Liquid Adhesive (4oz)

The bottle is what I use at home before placing a sensor or infusion site. Brush it on, let it dry, and adhesion is dramatically better — especially if you sweat a lot or swim. A little goes a long way and the 4oz lasts a while.

Adhesive

Skin-Tac Wipes (Box of 50)

Same formula as the bottle but in individual wipe packets — perfect for travel, the gym bag, or anywhere you're changing a site away from home. Latex-free and hypoallergenic. I keep a few in the tomtoc at all times.

Adhesive

Goo Gone Skin Adhesive Remover

The other half of the Skin-Tac equation. Safe for skin, pain-free, and actually dissolves the sticky residue left behind from CGM patches, KT tape, and infusion sites. Much better than peeling and hoping for the best.

Carry

Tomtoc 3.5L Sling Bag

My go-to bag for daily use, the gym, and travel. Fits everything — glucose tabs, FRIO wallet, backup supplies, phone — without being bulky. Water-resistant, RFID blocking, and comfortable enough to wear all day. One of those things I didn't know I needed until I had it.
